Conservative Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel Emerging As Consensus Candidate For Senate

CHQ Staff | 12/22/16

Ohio’s conservative State Treasurer Josh Mandel recently announced that he is running for the US Senate in a campaign that, if successful in the Republican Primary, would pit him against Far-Left Democrat Sherrod Brown.

Mandel has booked two early endorsements from conservative powerhouses The Club for Growth PAC and The Senate Conservatives Fund.

The Senate Conservatives Fund (SCF) does not endorse a candidate in every Senate race. Instead, the organization focuses its efforts on the best candidates nationwide. To win SCF's endorsement, a candidate must be a true conservative, have strong grassroots support, and be able to execute a winning campaign.

So far this cycle Josh Mandel is the only candidate SCF has endorsed.

"Josh Mandel is a model of pro-growth fiscal conservatism in Ohio, and the Club for Growth PAC is proud to endorse him for U.S. Senate," said Club for Growth PAC President David McIntosh. "Josh’s efforts to cut taxes at the state and local levels, his opposition to Obamacare expansion in Ohio, and his work to make the Buckeye State the best in the country for transparency in state spending all show the credentials of a proven economic conservative who will fight for taxpayers in Washington."

The Club for Growth recently released information from its first poll of Ohio Republicans for the 2018 Senate race, showing Mandel with a big lead.

Although it is early, we like what we see in Mandel, particularly his fiscal conservatism and his willingness to tell it like it is about the war Islam has declared on the West.

Josh Mandel was one of the few politicians to get the jihadi attack on the Ohio State University campus right.

After the attack he tweeted: "Looks like Radical Islamic terror came to my alma mater today. So sad what happened at OSU. We must remain vigilant against Radical Islam." About two hours later, he tweeted the last line again.

Mandel’s tweet came after the student responsible for the attack was identified as a Muslim, a Somali refugee who stayed for a short time in Pakistan, characteristics shared by several other Muslim terrorists.

While establishment Republican Governor of Ohio John Kasich foolishly claimed that "we may never find out" the motivations of the attacker Josh Mandel got it right.

Mandel also got another thing right, and it is one that should endear him to Ohio’s taxpayers and budget hawks everywhere: the OHIOCHECKBOOK APP.

This new mobile app gives users the ability to track 151 million individual Ohio state expenditures and 562,000 Ohio Public Employee Salaries.

When Josh Mandel was elected Treasurer of Ohio, his state ranked 46th in the nation on transparency. Today, Ohio ranks #1 and now the bar is set even higher.

Josh Mandel is the first elected official in history to push his state spending to a mobile app. Thanks to Mandel you can see the good and the bad in Ohio state government spending from the palm of your hand.

Produced in cooperation with our friends at OpentheBooks.com, a project of American Transparency- a 501(c)3 non-profit, non-partisan, charitable organization, the OhioCheckBook app is the first of its kind on the state level.

Josh Mandel was first elected State Representative in 2006, knocking on 19,679 doors and wearing out three pairs of shoes. He was elected the 48th Treasurer of the State of Ohio in 2010, and re-elected to a second term in 2014, winning both elections by double-digit margins.

Even more importantly from the perspective of fighting the war Islam has declared on the West, Josh enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 2000. During an eight-year Marine career including active and reserve service, Josh served two tours in Anbar Province, Iraq, protecting our values, our freedoms and our way of life.

However, Mandel’s election will be no slam dunk, because here’s what conservative truth-tellers like Josh Mandel are going to be up against in the 2018 Senate campaign.

No sooner had Mandel tweeted his call for vigilance against militant Islam than he was attacked by Michael Premo, chief of staff for Ohio Senate Democrats, who blasted Mandel, tweeting, "Looks like knee-jerk islamophobia came to my state today. So sad what @JoshMandelOhio said. We must remain vigilant against prejudice."
