1. Looking at Las Vegas Metro PD first — How many tickets were written last year and how many were paid?
A: Las Vegas Metro PD filed more than 35,000 citations in Las Vegas Municipal Court last year, totaling $15.8 million in potential fines.
Only on-third of citations were closed, some others were partially paid, for a total of just under $4 million collected in fines, about 25%.
Very similar to the 23% of fines paid in 2023.
2. What about Henderson PD and North Las Vegas PD?
A: North Las Vegas PD filed 20,506 traffic citations in municipal court, totaling over $19 million, but they collected only $4.7 million, like Las Vegas, a 25% collection rate.
Henderson PD had the best return. They filed almost 8,200 traffic citations totaling $2.5 million in potential fees, and 6,660 were paid for almost $1.6 million, a 65% collection rate.
3. How does this compare to previous years?
A: We talk about this every year and can see that it’s a trend of lots of tickets not being paid.
Both Metro PD and North Las Vegas PD wrote more tickets in 2024 than the year before, but both collected about 25% of potential fines — and N Las Vegas was higher in 2023, at 35%.
Henderson keeps having the highest percentage of tickets paid, was 68% in 2023, last year was 65.
It dropped from 9,000 tickets in 2023 to 8,200 last year.
It’s $10 million going into the government coffers but also lots in unpaid tickets.
