Never under-estimate what a small group of commented citizens can do to bring reform!

Tomorrow night at 6PM, during a Special Board Meeting, the new "Clean Slate" Board majority led by Chairman Kathy Hamilton will vote on the termination of college president Robert Breuder.

The 'termination of the president' is only item on the meeting agenda.

Among the alleged reasons for termination:

1. Failing to preserve electronically stored information on his college issued iPad during a litigation hold.
2. Electioneering and engaging in prohibited political activity in 2010 and 2015 elections.
3. Mismanaging College and Foundation funds, including a lack of oversight, lack of accountability and failure to implement proper controls.
4. Damaging the College and the Office of the College President's reputation through improper conduct with respect to a $20,000,000 grant from the State of Illinois in spring 2014.

Our organization and allies helped break many of these investigations - we even sued COD and won, click here.

Over the course of the last 18 months, it hasn't been an easy fight.  Watch here -  our first public comment in May, 2014.

Here's a partial list of institutional resistance:
  • In October, 2014, DuPage County State's Attorney Bob Berlin used a grand jury to secretly and unlawfully seal COD payment records from the Chicago Tribune, Edgar County Watchdogs and OpenTheBooks.com.
  • In November, 2014, COD Trustee Diane McGuire compared us to Nazi's, click here to watch video.
  • In July, 2015, Attorney General Lisa Madigan took four full years to identify Open Meetings Act violations committed while conferring up to $4 million in compensation contracts to President Breuder.
  • In September, 2015, DuPage County State's Attorney Bob Berlin refused to prosecute those COD Open Meetings Act violations identified by Lisa Madigan.
But, pleasant persistence wears resistance. Over the last six months, Chairman Kathy Hamilton and the new majority:
  • Cut property taxes and cut student tuition
  • Stopped Breuder's $762,000 "voluntary severance package"
  • Re- named the Homeland Security Building after Presidential Medal of Honor recipient Sargent Robert J. Miller from Wheaton, IL
  • Fired Treasurer Thomas Glaser and fired Comptroller Lynn Sapyta
  • Identified $200 million of invested assets outside of board policy
  • Closed the college's upscale French Restaurant, The Waterleaf
And much, much more!

None of this reform would have been possible without terrific reporting at Chicago Tribune by reporters Jodi Cohen and Stacy St. Clair, and Daily Herald by reporters Robert Sanchez and Jake Griffin.

State Representatives Jeannie Ives, Michael Connelly and Peter Breen supported the reformers, and sponsored legislation. Governor Bruce Rauner has signed two new bills into law.

Tomorrow night at College of DuPage, a new chapter begins.

Come join Chairman Kathy Hamilton, Vice Chairman Deanne Mazzochi and the 'Clean Slate' Majority as they begin the process of rebuilding at College of DuPage.
