Washington, D.C. has the highest work-from-home rate in the country and Americans are concerned about federal workers doing their job. This comes as President Joe Biden proposed the largest pay hike for federal agencies since 1980 earlier this month.

CEO of Open the Books Adam Andrzejewski joined The National Desk’s Jan Jeffcoat Friday morning to discuss the story.

“It costs $72 million a minute and a half a billion dollars a day when you add in the cost of benefits, the payroll on an annual basis can cost about $200 billion a year,” he said. “President Biden wants to put the largest pay increase for federal workers at 5.2% Since 1980, and we estimate that alone will add at taxpayer cost $10 billion.”

As part of the president’s fiscal 2024 budget, he proposed a 5.2% average pay for federal employees.

Andrzejewski says that in the 2022 federal payroll, the average pay for a federal bureaucrat is six figures a year and comes with 44 days and nearly nine weeks of paid time off.

“No wonder so many people want to work for the federal government these days, right?” he said.
