Nine months ago we filed a Freedom of Information Act Request simply seeking one year of the line-by-line electronic State of Illinois checkbook. The Illinois Comptroller rejected our request. We appealed to the Attorney General Lisa Madigan for help. Initially, the Public Access Counselor opened a case saying, "… further inquiry was warranted." After some perfunctory phone calls and emails, it’s been five months of silence.
On Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at the Howlett Auditorium at the Capitol in Springfield, we unveiled the details of our lawsuit to compel the Comptroller to comply with Freedom of Information Act law. The people deserve to know where there money is being spent.
